Personal information

New SCSC Management Organisation

Since 1 August 2016 the SCSC is being managed by the University of York instead of Newcastle University.  Although there is no change to the way personal data is used the responsibility for the web-site and the information held about Club members and registered web-site users has move to the University of York.  If you wish your web-site account to not be managed by the University of York it can be deleted by emailing web site admin.

SCSC members who receive Club information by post should have already been informed of these changes and that they can be removed from the membership database by contacting Alex King.

Data Protection

The Safety-Critical Systems Club (SCSC) collects and holds personal data for the purposes of advertising and managing attendance at SCSC events and for managing access to services on the club's web site. The data comprises names, Email addresses, contact details and personalisation settings of past and current SCSC members and is compiled and held in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998.

How the SCSC uses your personal data

Personal data is used to identify past and current SCSC members and provide them with information regarding the SCSC and the activities and events it organises. The names and addresses of all current members constitute a mailing list used to distribute, either by post or by e-mail, the SCSC newsletter, flyers for future events and information related to safety-critical systems. The mailing list may, from time to time, be used to distribute material for third parties. In these cases the material distributed must be relevant to safety-critical systems or safety-critical system developers. The mailing list or other personal data is not given or sold to any other third party.

Personal information on the website

The SCSC website (www.scsc.uk) provides a mechanism for site users to register and access club services.  Certain contact information is required in order to provide these services and this information is held on the club's web server.

By providing this contact information members or web-site users are agreeing for the Club to send them information about Club events or other Club related information.

Members or web-site users may check or update their personal details on the web site when require by logging into the web-site and selecting 'My details' in the top right corner.

Access to personal data is strictly limited to the individual and the Club's secretariat.  All personal information is encrypted during transmission between the server and a user's browser. If you have any concerns about your personal information please contact the web site admin.

Online payments

The SCSC website allow online payments for membership, event bookings and other purchases.  Online payments are achieved using Realex Payments payment gateway, the company selected by the University of York to provide their online payment facilities.  Realex Payments comply with the PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) and securely manage all personal and financial data.  When making online payments through the SCSC website we do not have access to credit card data and the only information stored by the SCSC is the success or failure of the Realex transaction.
